Community Service
In simple obedience to Jesus’ command to be witnesses of the Gospel close to home, CHS students enthusiastically engage in ministry outreaches in Tyler and neighboring communities, shining the light of Christ in their very own “Jerusalem.”
Joining forces with service organizations such as the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, and Mercy Ships, teams of CHS students and teachers provide practical assistance in various ways. They sort groceries at food pantries, clear brush from shut-ins’ yards, and organize supplies at homeless shelters, always seeking opportunities to pray and share joy with all they encounter. Students perform entertaining and uplifting programs at nursing centers, preschools, and veterans’ homes. At local police and fire stations, the teams distribute handmade cards that express appreciation to those who serve and protect us.
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “
(Matthew 25:44-45)
